Return to The Clipped Choir
Anneal Courts
Where blank metal is taught to accept a face
Sable Court's Anneal Courts soften blank metal, harden lawful faces, feed the Clipped Choir through furnace loss, and prove identity survives only what the fire permits.
Codex Ref. II.2.07-094
Assay Cloisters
Where coin is taught to confess before its owner is accused
In Sable Court's eastern arc, blind clerks, acid bowls, hymn-forks, and small bells decide whether a coin's face may continue pretending to be lawful.
Codex Ref. II.2.07-003
Black Canal
Where unlawful water teaches authority to float
The Black Canal is Candlewick's under-dike criminal water: a wet market of outlaw shade, Hungry Ink, false seals, name packages, and useful denial.
Codex Ref. XIII.1.19-098
Candle Tribunal
Justice paid into the palm at low water
Beneath Sable Court's second canal lock, the Clipped Choir pays verdicts into the palm: acquittal, debt, exile, or cold coin. No appeal is recorded.
Codex Ref. XIII.1.58-201
Clipper's Market
Where money confesses and hunger pays the fee
Sable Court's legal exchange frontage weighs coin, face, and citizen alike; the soap is cheap, the fear is official, and the mercy is illegal.
Codex Ref. II.2.07-002
Copper Saint Crush
Ordinary copper, nineteen dead, and a bill
At Clipper's Market in A.S. 196, a rumour of saint-faced copper crushed nineteen petitioners against the Widow Gate. The copper was ordinary; the dead still owed inspection fees.
Codex Ref. VII.8.10-196
Crownwright Guild
The Chapter owns the face; the Guild owns the hand
The Crownwright Guild cuts Sable Court's lawful faces, charges for recognition, and keeps the Mint-Chapter dependent on its hands. Its apprentice rolls remain closed during the Face Theft crisis.
Codex Ref. XI.7.01-001
Die Row
Where a lawful face still requires a human hand
In Sable Court's northern engraving halls, Crownwright masters cut faces into steel by hand. Several offices make the result lawful; every office sends a bill.
Codex Ref. II.2.07-002
Face Archive
The locked reference by which a face is permitted to circulate
Sable Court keeps every lawful face under triple lock. The Face Archive binds coin to name and memory; since its plates began to change, the Chapter has answered doubt with tighter locks.
Codex Ref. II.2.07-002
Face Registry Compact
The law that made recognition portable, taxable and revocable
Ratified in A.S. 94, the Face Registry Compact binds coin, face, name and the Ledger's soul account. Recognition may travel, be taxed, or be recalled; in Sable Court, even memory pays its dues.
Codex Ref. XIII.1.91-002
Face Theft Crisis of A.S. 199–201
When the coin forgets, the citizen pays
Since A.S. 199, Cologne's coins have changed faces, loosening memory and lawful identity. Seventeen denominations were recalled; the investigation remains open in A.S. 201, while hunger waits for an assay slip.
Codex Ref. VII.8.10-199
Gate of Assay
Where a clean strike promises a clean soul
A.S. 201 survey of the Mint-Chapter's Gate of Assay in Sable Court, Cologne. A clean strike promises a clean soul; even my seal of office required repeated inspection.
Codex Ref. II.2.07-002
Irena Coilhand
The Church's lawful faces begin beneath her veils
Master Engraver of Die Row, Irena Coilhand cuts the steel that gives the Synod's souls their spendable faces. In the A.S. 201 Face Theft crisis, she wraps the dies in blessed silk; Doctrine calls it irregular devotion.
Codex Ref. III.2.01-1480
Lise Three-Eyes
Six bells, one tongue, no name containing r
Lise Three-Eyes reportedly gave a debtor six bells in a recalled face. The conditions are filed; the birth name, warrants and whereabouts remain less obliging.
Codex Ref. III.2.01-1636
Master Engraver Irena Coilhand
The hand that makes recognition spendable
Irena Coilhand cuts Sable Court's lawful faces. The Mint-Prelate may recognize a soul; making it spendable still requires a hand Doctrine forbids replacing.
Codex Ref. III.2.01-1784
Mint Tribunal
Recognition is lent. The Hall keeps the receipt.
The Mint Tribunal of Sable Court holds, recalls, and corrects the right of a face to be recognised. Its orders reach bread, wages, and memory; the Face Theft complaints now wait on evidence that cannot remember itself.
Codex Ref. XIII.1.91-201
Mint-Chapter
Where the Synod makes faces spendable and obedience portable
The Mint-Chapter binds face, name, and coin into one leash: a polished doctrine by which bread, debt, memory, and burial all learn to ask for a clean strike.
Codex Ref. XIII.1.91-094
Mint-Chapter Compact
One hand cuts the face; the other decides whether it may buy bread
The A.S. 94 bargain binding Crownwright craft to Mint-Chapter authority. At the A.S. 201 assessment, its two hands still strike coin, collect fees, and decide whose face may buy bread.
Codex Ref. XI.7.01-002
Mint-Prelate
The stamp that makes a face spendable
The Mint-Prelate makes Sable Court's coin-faces lawful. Varo Sable keeps recognition payable in advance while the Face Theft crisis enlarges the office's authority.
Codex Ref. XIII.1.91-002
Mint-Prelate Albrecht Sable
He taught the coin to look back
Albrecht Sable made coinage into identity infrastructure: face, name, Ledger account, tax, recall, and accusation flattened into metal.
Codex Ref. III.2.01-094
Mint-Prelate Varo Sable
The man who decides whether a face counts
Varo Sable decides which faces spend as lawful coin. The Face Theft crisis keeps the Archive sealed, his inspections multiplying, and the Clipped Choir useful to the authority that condemns it.
Codex Ref. III.2.01-1848
The Master Die
Four denials, one reported cylinder, no established custodian
A steel cylinder reportedly capable of striking coins that loosen identity and unsettle the Face Registry. Four Mint-Chapter denials are on file; the instrument remains unverified.
Codex Ref. V.2.03-001
