Return to Age of Reason

Academies
New cathedrals of Reason, with better brass and worse gods
The Academies taught Europe to replace altar with demonstration table, relic with specimen case, prayer with applause, and cruelty with excellent paperwork.
Codex Ref. I.1.03-000

Age of Faith
The golden age improved by burial
A devotional-historical category for the centuries before A.S. 0, when Heaven is said to have answered and Europe had not yet taught unbelief to print.
Codex Ref. XIII.1.00-000

Anno Synodi
The wound by which Strasbourg owns the year
The Synod's calendar counts not from triumph but from wound: A.S. 0 at De Vera Luce, adopted retrospectively at the Concordat, and enforced by Records, Bells, and Doctrine.
Codex Ref. XIII.1.00-090

Cauterization
The cathedral burned; the stones have yet to finish their testimony
The A.S. 24 burning of Rouen's cathedral, orchestrated by Rationalists who blamed arsonists. Witnesses swore the fire paused at every altar; its agency remains unresolved, and the stones still bleed soot.
Codex Ref. VII.1.04-024

Council of Rational Governance
The committee that prosecuted the warning instead of answering it
Vienna's Council of Rational Governance answered the Eastern Silence in A.S. 38 by criminalising supernatural testimony. Its charter and councillors are unrecorded; its confidence survives in the declarations.
Codex Ref. I.1.03-038

Doctrine of Divine Withdrawal
The way to our ears was broken. The responsibility remains ours.
Ratified in A.S. 72, the Doctrine blames Rationalist desecration for the Creator's silence. His return awaits Perfect Faith. The delay, naturally, belongs to the faithful.
Codex Ref. XIII.1.90-072

Edremit
The town that casts the throats by which Constantinople breathes
Edremit is the Hintermark casting town that makes boiler throats, casing collars, rivet stock, and hoarse children for Constantinople's hungry works.
Codex Ref. II.4.09-118

Fellowship of the Correct Stroke
A crooked letter, a second fee
The Fellowship of the Correct Stroke taught Doctrine to suspect a hooked letter. Its A.S. 112 petitions helped reopen 411 manifest cases; the zealots acquired offices, and merchants acquired a second bill.
Codex Ref. XII.8.10-001

First Position
The debt was inherited. The balance was never disclosed.
The former teaching that the Great Deceiver punishes Rationalist sins and will withdraw after sufficient penance. Recorded in the A.S. 201 survey: the doctrine is superseded, the debt unmeasured, and the faithful still paying.
Codex Ref. VI.1.01-002

Florence
The city that taught drawers to keep the faith
Florence is the polished Tuscan wound where hidden crucifixes, artisan tools, and the A.S. 44 Ivory Revolt made small devotion sharper than empire.
Codex Ref. II.4.09-044

Lumen
Reason alone, debased by its own mint
The Lumen was the Rationalist Republic's bright little sermon in stolen metal: altar silver, RATIO SOLA, and a compass pointing straight into confiscation.
Codex Ref. XIII.1.90-030

Matthias Krell
The wrist kept hours; the archive kept no ending
Vienna rope-hauler marked during the A.S. 34 Red Flood: his wrist kept hours, his cell flooded upward, and the institutions kept everything except his fate.
Codex Ref. III.2.01-034

Prague
The bridge-city where shame learned civic architecture
Synod-held Prague is a Zone 3 bridge-city of public correction, Rationalist residue, Ephrath theatre, acoustic wounds, and useful civic obedience.
Codex Ref. II.3.02-001

Rationalist Philosophical Police
The lecture hall's knife, wearing spectacles and calling itself clean
Reason Alone hired inspectors before it hired shame: the Philosophical Police made atrocity literate, then called the handwriting civic hygiene.
Codex Ref. VIII.1.04-018

Regensburg
The city that sold false dawn by the plaque and glass
Regensburg hosted Reason's false triumph, sold bread to signatories and plaques to penitents, and still rehearses its profitable disgrace under Bureau watch.
Codex Ref. II.2.03-030

Singleton Doctrine
Heaven knows; the Synod stamps provisional
The Singleton Doctrine preserves one soul against Morwen's better faces, while admitting the Synod must issue rifles, rations, and death warrants provisionally.
Codex Ref. XIII.1.01-199

Thracian Forests
Maldrake felled a province into the sky
The Thracian forests were Maldrake's timbered weapon: a fallen reserve burned in A.S. 143 until ash became famine, ink-hunger, echo drift, and weather.
Codex Ref. II.6.03-143
