Grounding Field
Iron for the storm, folklore for the interrogator
Forty-seven iron chains guard Third Light against lightning. The Provosts hear oaths beside them; Doctrine calls their judgment folklore and conducts its interrogations there all the same.

Lanternwright mechanics
The clerk certifies the light; the mechanic keeps it burning
Third Light's Lanternwright mechanics keep salvaged lenses clean, true and obedient. The clerks certify the signal; the mechanics climb into the lightning, while the fog answers and replacement glass remains a memorandum.
Codex Ref. XII.26.02-002
Lowvale Tallytown
The ridge's dependence, entered against the valley
Lowvale Tallytown sends lamp oil, salvaged glass and conscripts up to Third Light. The ridge calls it dependent, then charges its porters twice for keeping the beacon lit.
